Butachlor is a high-efficiency, selective pre-emergence herbicide from the amide class, widely used in paddy fields for post-sowing, pre-emergence soil treatment or after transplanting. It provides excellent control of annual gramineous weeds by inhibiting fatty acid synthesis in weed embryos, disrupting cell division, and ultimately causing weed death.
Butachlor is especially effective against annual grasses such as barnyard grass (Echinochloa crus-galli), Leptochloa chinensis, Digitaria sanguinalis, Eleusine indica, and Setaria viridis. It also offers moderate control of certain broad-leaved weeds and sedges, making it a reliable choice for rice field weed management.
