Molecular Formula: C₁₆H₁₈N₄O₇S
Molecular Weight: 410.40
Bensulfuron-methyl is a selective systemic herbicide designed for paddy fields. Belonging to the sulfonylurea class, it inhibits acetolactate synthase (ALS) in weeds, blocking branched-chain amino acid biosynthesis, which stops weed growth and leads to death.
It effectively controls annual and some perennial broadleaf weeds, including:
Grasses: Echinochloa crus-galli (barnyard grass), Leptochloa chinensis (Chinese sprangletop)
Broadleaf weeds: Sagittaria pygmaea (dwarf arrowhead), Alisma plantago-aquatica (water plantain), Rotala indica (Indian rotala)

pH (1% aqueous solution): 5.0–8.0
Melting Point: 165–170℃
Water Solubility: Low, easily dispersible
Stability: Stable at room temperature; decomposes in strong acids
Highly selective and safe for most crops
Rapid action with quick onset
Can be mixed with other herbicides to expand control spectrum and delay resistance
Effective against some resistant weeds
Moderately toxic to fish; prevent herbicide from entering water bodies
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, away from fire and children
Wear protective equipment to avoid inhalation or skin contact
